Road to War - Clash Between Turkish and Israeli Navy

04FEB12 – The Turkish Ministry of National Defense released a statement indicating two Turkish warships, the TCG Barbaros and TCG Bodrum fired on the Israeli warship INS Eilat earlier today. According to the statement the INS Eilat crossed into Turkish territorial waters at approximately 10:30am local time today. After detecting the vessel the TCG Barbaros attempted to hail the INS Eilat via radio. When attempts at radio and visual communication were unsuccessful the Barbaros fired a warning shot across the bow of the INS Eilat. In response the INS Eilat returned fire against the Turkish warships. The TCG Barbaros and TCG Bodrum responded and severely damaged the INS Eilat before allowing it to return to international waters.
